Free Your Mind So Your Ass Can Follow
Share
Sometimes self-care isn't a bubble bath, a vacation, or shutting everything down for the entire day.
Sometimes it's simply recognizing when life has given you a moment to pause.
I've been moving at a pretty fast pace lately—learning new things, taking care of responsibilities, working toward new goals, and handling whatever needed to be handled along the way.
And somewhere in all of that, I was reminded of something I say all the time:
Free your mind so your ass can follow.
It makes me laugh, but there's some truth behind it.
We can physically sit down while our minds are still running a marathon.
Thinking about what needs to happen tomorrow.
Replaying what happened yesterday.
Wondering about things we can't control today.
Planning the next move before we've even finished the one we're making now.
Sometimes you've handled everything that's yours to handle, and the next step isn't yours yet.
That's when you have to give yourself permission to release it.
Not quit.
Not stop pursuing what you want.
Not pretend that your responsibilities don't exist.
Just pause.
I've learned that every open space doesn't have to be filled with another task. Sometimes the space itself is exactly what you need.
Sit by the water.
Listen to some music.
Take a walk.
Laugh.
Spend time with your animals.
Go fishing.
Or just sit your ass down somewhere and do absolutely nothing for a minute. 😂
Whatever allows your mind to become quiet enough for the rest of you to follow.
Because tomorrow will bring whatever tomorrow brings.
Today?
Handle what you can. Release what you can't control. And give yourself permission to enjoy the pause.
Take what serves you. Leave what doesn't.
